Modi and Trump Discuss Nuclear Energy: A Path to Energy Security
Many nuclear regulations made it difficult for the construction of nuclear projects to begin in India. Licensing a nuclear project outside of the US is even more difficult than inside due to the regulatory control the US puts on foreign construction. The lack of these is what makes Russia’s Rosatom such a prominent nuclear company around the world.
During the end of the Biden administration, these regulations would be removed to allow for licensing to nations overseas to begin construction. Now, Trump agrees that these regulations are getting in the way of nuclear deployment for American companies and plans to get rid of these. This is good news for Indian energy dependance.
The agreement between India and America to incorporate nuclear power capabilities allows for the safeguarding of nuclear technology while still creating the opportunity to deploy new advanced nuclear reactors to ensure the safest designs are used.
Just this week, Prime Minister Modi met with French President Emmanuel Macron to declare a partnership for creating and implementing advanced reactor technology. This is a big step as countries aim to generate clean, abundant energy while securing energy for their nation.
